Blob or bombshell?

by jami in JC Blog

We all love black and wear it for a variety of reasons with camouflage being the most common. We think we are hiding something from the world if we shroud ourselves in black. Well, it just isn’t true. I have written about this before but going out last night inspired me to revisit this topic. So here is what happened. Saturday night out with some friends to a sexy lounge that was fairly dark. One of the gals was a plus-size woman who was very pretty. Beautiful long black hair, flawless face (no makeup) and vivacious personality.  Her clothing was all black without pattern or texture that I could see. I was looking at her at one point in the evening and realized that all I could see in the dark was her skin. The rest of her was awash in a sea of black.  Just a dark mass. This woman thought she was camouflaging her size but she actually was camouflaging all of the good things too, including her personality. Here is the thing. We all have things that we don’t like about ourselves (my knees). BUT we all have characteristics that we LOVE about ourselves. So the key is not to wrap ourselves in black and conceal what we makes us feel good too.  Get it? So now you are asking what should she have worn. I think she would have looked fabulous in a medium to large pattern top with a v-neck. Little cleavage never hurt anyone. 3 quarter sleeves. Darts. A splash of color or texture – perhaps some sequins, leopard print. She would have highlighted her outgoing personality and curves with blue, green or red accents to her outfit. So the next time you are going out, ask yourself this: Do I want to look like a blob or a bombshell?
